Myanmar (formerly Burma) is a Southeast Asian nation of more than 100 ethnic groups, sharing borders with India, Bangladesh, China, Laos, and Thailand. It combines wild nature and vibrant urban landscapes in a unique way, and has a long, fascinating history. I traveled extensively through Myanmar, riding my bike and sailing down its great rivers. Yet the decades of military rule have always cast a dark shadow over this beautiful country—and over my journey there as well.
