Tanzania
Tanzania is the place where I first fell in love with Africa. It holds around 20% of the continent’s vast population of large warm-blooded animals, spread across 21 national parks and numerous game and forest reserves, including the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Rich in biodiversity, Tanzania encompasses a remarkable variety of habitats. On the vast Serengeti plains, white-bearded wildebeest, zebras, and other antelopes take part in one of the largest annual land migrations on Earth. Tanzania is also home to more than 1,100 species of birds, 130 amphibians, and over 75 species of reptiles—many of them strictly endemic.
I have visited Tanzania’s reserves many times, yet always left with the feeling that I had witnessed only a fraction of the wildlife world that thrives there. It is one of the rare places on Earth where you can be completely immersed in wildlife for days on end. I have always promised myself that I would return.
